Recite Now
DLR Libraries invites primary schools in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown to participate in our new schools recitation competition, “Recite Now”.
We feel this is an opportune time to launch such a competition, both because poetry recitation has experienced a resurgence of late, and because over the years DLR Libraries has maintained an excellent relationship with the primary schools in the county, and we wish to continue and build on that relationship, particularly in recessionary times.
There will be 2 age categories: Cat. 1 (Senior) is for 5th and 6th classes and Cat. 2 (Junior) is for 4th and 5th classes. Each participant will recite 2 poems in each round; there will be one prescribed poem for each participant, and the second poem may be chosen by the student or teacher from a list of recommended anthologies. Each school may put forward as many students as they think suitable for the competition and there will be 3 rounds; heats, semi-final and final.
The information pack includes application forms, judge’s marking sheets and general information about the competition and poetry recitation. Forms may also be downloaded and printed from our website. The closing date will be Friday 29th January 2010, and application forms should be sent to:

Cat. 1 (Senior): Individual prizes
First: €300 and a book of poetry
Second: EUR200 and a book of poetry
Third: EUR100 and a book of poetry
Cat. 1 (Senior): School’s prizes:
First: Book tokens worth EUR2000 for the school library
Second: Book tokens worth EUR1000 for the school library
Third: Book tokens worth EUR500 for the school library
Cat. 2 (Junior): Individual prizes
First: EUR200 and a book of poetry
Second: EUR100 and a book of poetry
Third: EUR50 and a book of poetry
